Facility
Serving the community since 1958, Belleville
Memorial Hospital,
a 313-bed independently owned and operated community hospital located just
15-minutes east of downtown St. Louis,
Missouri, provides a full range
of inpatient and outpatient services. Memorial is the area's largest provider
of surgical services and diagnostic imaging as well as physical therapy/rehab
services. Memorial also operates the metro-east's largest Emergency Department
with 50,000 annual visits. Memorial also operates a 108-bed skilled
nursing-rehab facility adjacent to the hospital.
Objective
Belleville employs
over 2,200 full and part-time employees and a Medical Staff of over 300
physicians representing 44 specialties. Belleville Memorial’s objectives were
to improve communications among patient and staff while also providing a bed
management solution that would make patient care more efficient.
Solution
By
replacing the existing nurse call system and utilizing Rauland’s Responder IV
System and RNET Software while integrating with Ascom Wireless Phones the
hospital was able to create better bed management and a flexible integrated
communications platform.
With the Ascom integration nursing staff is notified of a patient call by an
alert tone and vibration on the Ascom Wireless Handset, which displays the call
information (room number, bed number, call priority) on an LCD display. At the
simple press of a button a conversation path is opened from the caregiver to
the Responder IV bedside station allowing the caregiver to discover the nature
of the request before he or she travels to the room creating a more efficient
solution.
Effective
bed management starts with a simple system with high staff compliance. With a
push of a button Rauland's Responder NET solution
allows housekeeping to be notified instantly through pocket
paging, wireless phones and/or real-time PC screens of which rooms are in
need of service, while staff have the convenience of knowing immediately when a
room is available. Room requests are managed easily from real-time screens
showing open rooms, pending discharges and rooms in need of maintenance. Rauland’s
RNET provided Belleville
Memorial Hospital
with a complete bed management solution.
